Overview of Vancouver Travel
Vancouver lies in the far western coast of Canada, a multitude of high rises circling the city's Harbour. The city is divided up into many different neighborhoods, the most central of these being the Downtown commercial/office core. Downtown Vancouver's hotels are within walking distance of many of its attractions, including shopping, nightlife and restaurants. Vancouver's hotels are mostly in the downtown area. Hotels in Vancouver are mainly in the moderate range, but as always this depends on location and luxury.

Gastown, the oldest section of Vancouver is a pleasant walk with its cobblestone streets and souvenir stands. Chinatown is like stepping into another city altogether with its range of traditional restaurants, shops, and even apothecaries. Granville Island is a great afternoon trip. Reached by bridge or boat, it is a haven of markets, fairs, cafes and theatres.

For a break from the urgent rush of the downtown area, take a trip over to West Vancouver, where hundreds of trendy shops, restaurants, and malls lie beneath a towering mountain range. You can be shopping one hour, and the next be hiking through a dense mountain trail or even skiing down the slopes of Cypress Bowl, Grouse Mountain, or Mt. Seymour.

Vancouver prides itself on its location, and many of its top attractions reflect this. The Vancouver aquarium houses thousands of examples of marine life, much of it local. From whales, sharks, piranhas and sea otters to dolphins and snakes, there is something or everyone here. The aquarium is located in Stanley Park, an attraction all on its own with 1000 acres of west coast rainforest. Science world is a favorite of kids, where the mysteries of science can be discovered with a very hands-on approach. The Vancouver Art Gallery boasts a huge collection of Canadian Art, most notably that of West Coast artist Emily Carr and members of the 'Group of Seven'.

A day of outdoor activities is just as easy to get to in Vancouver as a day of shopping. Within an hour of downtown there are beaches, lakes, and mountains where canoeing, swimming, bicycling, fishing, skiing and snowboarding, and eco-tours are just some of the activities you can partake in. There is a huge amount of information about travelling to Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia on the web.
